Trail notice
The trail is closed due to adverse weather conditions in the east of the island, effective from 14:00 on October 1, 2026, until further notice. Accumulated precipitation over 12 hours: 150 mm. The mid-altitude areas of the island's north and east are particularly affected. Localized totals could exceed 180 mm.
  • DISTANCE: 16.3 km.
  • DIFFICULTY: Average. A long route involving a considerable height difference; the main difficulty is precisely the physical fitness demanded, otherwise, it is straightforward.
  • ACCUMULATED ASCENDING LEVEL: 0 mt.
  • ACCUMULATED DESCENDING LEVEL: 2150 mt.
  • ESTIMATED TIME OF GOING:  4:45 hrs.
  • ESTIMATED TIME COMING BACK: 5:45 hrs.
  • NATURE RESERVES WITHIN THE TRAIL: Parque Natural de Las Nieves.
  • RECOMMENDED TIME OF THE YEAR: All year round. Avoid the high zone when there is snow.
  • GETTING TO THE TRAIL: Public transport is non-existent, a taxi or private vehicle being required.
  • BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS: Habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below. At the risk of sounding obvious, here are some of the most important:

    • Check weather forecasts before setting off to hike.
    • Don´t go alone.
    • Tell someone your intended destination and expected time of arrival.
    • Carry a small rucksack with warm clothing, waterproofs, food and plenty of water. 
    • Don´t forget such simple items as: sun hat, protective cream and sun glasses.
    • Carry a mobile phone with fully-charged battery, a map and, if possible, a compass. They will probably never be used but, when required, are of vital importance.
    • Wear suitable gear, especially footwear: trekking boots or similar are essential, trainers or pumps are to be avoided, habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below.
  • REMARKS: The route is usually walked in a downhill direction and lends itself to various options. The first entails the choice of destination: Barlovento (via the PR LP 8 path) or Los Sauces (via the PR LP 7). It is also possible to descend to the Visitor Centre of Los Tilos, along the PR LP 7.1 path. In all cases it should be borne in mind that they are long routes demanding adequate equipment and requiring food and water to be carried.
