PR LP 05. FUENTE VIZCAÍNA – LA GALGA

Download file: PRLP5.gpx
  • DISTANCE: 13,2 km.
  • DIFFICULTY: Extreme. It is a long, solitary, physically demanding walk. Between roughly 900m and 1,300m, the rapidly growing evergreen vegetation can obstruct the path. In that case, follow the track, which is longer, but free from undergrowth. In the highest zone, between Fuente Vizcaína and Llanos de La Galga, broom bushes stretch across the path in years with heavy snowfalls, making the route impracticable. Beware of snow in the high zone.
  • ACCUMULATED ASCENDING LEVEL: 0 mt.
  • ACCUMULATED DESCENDING LEVEL: 1980 mt.
  • ESTIMATED TIME OF GOING: 4:00 hrs.
  • ESTIMATED TIME COMING BACK: 5:15 hrs.
  • NATURE RESERVES WITHIN THE TRAIL: Parque Natural de Las Nieves.
  • RECOMMENDED TIME OF THE YEAR: Any time of year but avoid very rainy days in winter. After recent snow falls, the high zone, above Llanos de La Galga can become impracticable.
  • GETTING TO THE TRAIL: Public transport is non-existent.
  • BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS: Habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below. At the risk of sounding obvious, here are some of the most important:

    • Check weather forecasts before setting off to hike.
    • Don´t go alone.
    • Tell someone your intended destination and expected time of arrival.
    • Carry a small rucksack with warm clothing, waterproofs, food and plenty of water.
    • Don´t forget such simple items as: sun hat, protective cream and sun glasses.
    • Carry a mobile phone with fully-charged battery, a map and, if possible, a compass. They will probably never be used but, when required, are of vital importance.
    • Wear suitable gear, especially footwear: trekking boots or similar are essential, trainers or pumps are to be avoided, habitual precautions common to hiking in general are listed below.
  • REMARKS: A solitary, high mountain path demanding a minimum of experience and physical fitness. The most usual is to begin the route in the high zone, so that the condition of the path can be assessed (snow, obstruction by undergrowth …). If on walking the path in an uphill direction the end point is unable to be reached, the PR LP 3.2 path is a good alternative providing access to Fuente de Olén.
